Our Mission

The Scott Valley Emergency Food Pantry (SVEFP) is an all-volunteer outreach ministry of Fort Jones Community Church dedicated to serve individuals and families within Scott Valley and Sawyer’s Bar areas.

God calls us to use our time, talents, and resources to reach out to help those in need in our local community. In these uncertain times, hunger is raising for numerous reasons. With various contributions, local resources plus a grant we can tackle this ever-growing problem.

We look to the bible for direction. NLT, Matthew 25:34-40

(34) Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. (35) For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home, (36) I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and visited me.’ (37) “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? (38) Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? (39) When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?

            (40) “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my bothers and sister,* you were doing it to me!’

NLT, The point of this parable is not the who, but the what, the importance of serving where service is needed. Whether it be food, clothing, water, caring for, visiting, or just helping someone in need.

We also provide various emergency services and aide during man-made and natural disasters based on a compassionate hand up as we respect the dignity of everyone we serve.

With God working in us and through us...In our Faith and Hope, we can make a difference!

Our Volunteers

Currently we have 24 volunteers that donate their time at SVEFP and are it's greatest asset. They give generously over 4,500 hours of their time and without them the pantry would not exist.  They create close relationships and trust with individuals and families coming to SVEFP. Their relationships open the door for the volunteers to help in other ways besides giving food.

The drivers pick-up local store donations a 35 mile round trip, 6 days a week with one driver picking up purchased food along with donated food in Medford, OR, a 200 mile round trip.  Another driver goes down to Redding, CA, a 200 mile round trip once a month, picking up food donations from Feeding America. Driver volunteers, pick up donations at their own expense. This food is sorted and stacked for distribution.
